Frequently asked questions:
Q. Does the $25.00 Manufacturing Fee cover the total cost of my “Spartan Plate”?
A. No. that is a fee charged by the State of Georgia for making the plate available.  We have to have payment from at least 1,000 people before the State will offer a Spartan License Plate.  Once the plate is available you can order one at the localDMV and pay your normal license plate fees.

Q. What are all the fees?
A. You will be paying the following.

  • The Manufacturing fee – $25.00 one-time charge. I.e. the next time you get a license plate you will not pay this $25.00. This is the fee we are collecting now to send to the State of Georgia. There is also a $1.75 processing fee that covers the PayPal fee  and some programming charges to pay for those expenses. This will show under “Shipping and Handling”.

When you go to the DMV to get your plate you will then pay the following:

  • Your Regular Plate fee – $20.00
  • A “Specialty Plate” fee – 35.00
  • Local Ad-Valorem fees based on the value of your vehicle.

Q. Do only the first 1,000 people need to pay the “Manufacturing Fee” or does everyone have to pay?
A. Everyone will have to complete the application and pay the manufacturing fee.  When the first 1,000 pay, they will get a receipt to take to the tag local DMV showing payment.  If you don’t have that receipt the county employee will charge you the manufacturing fee there.

Q. What if I need to renew my plate before the Spartan plate is available?
A. Go ahead and renew with a regular plate. Once the Spartan plate is available you can take your current plate back and order a Spartan plate.  The DMB will give you a temporary until the Spartan plate arrives (about 7 days).  You will get a credit between the old plate and the Spartan Plate if it’s with the same year.

Q. How can I pay the $25.00 fee?  Do you take credit cards?
A. Yes. You can pay via PayPal or Credit Card, above on our Web Site at

Q. What if we don’t get a thousand people to commit to buy a plate?  Will I get a refund?
A. Yes, if at the end of 60 days, we do not have applications and payment for 1,000 plates we will refund the payments we do have and that will be the end of it.

Q. Can the plate also be a vanity plate.  For example can I have LUV*MSU on the plate as well?
A. No, the State is not allowing vanity messages at this time

Q. Does the Spartan Plate last “forever” and can people keep renewing?
A. Yes.  At some point in the future, we might offer a new design.  For example maybe add “National Champions”.  Just thinking…

Q. How exactly do I order one and receive it?
A. The first step is to fill out the application above and pay the $25.00 fee. After we get a 1.000 applications and send them to the State along with the payments, they will send each applicant a receipt for their payment.  Take this receipt to your local DMV and ask for the Spartan Plate.  They will order it for you and give you a temporary plate until yours come it.  It will be mailed to you when it is ready. The wait usually isn’t very long since they are made here in Georgia.

Q. Is there a web site where I can see all of the other specialty plates in Georgia.
